I didn't have the time to explore the demo stand, mostly because I was so busy greeting friends from all the Java communities in Italy ;) but I happen to share the same feeling as you regarding the companies trying to leverage OSS in Italy... a lack of motivation in taking a part within a global community, often trying to hide the OSS roots of their packaged products... that's why it happens that I have more to discuss with the people from the italian OpenOffice group, than with the guys from companies... there is enough stuff for a future speech at the JUG, don't you think? ;)
